An affordable ride can make a library visit, appointment or afternoon with a friend easier to arrange.

Across Tampa Bay, however, a senior discount does not come with one universal ticket.

Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco use different systems, and the way you prove eligibility can matter as much as the fare.

Start with the agency operating your route, then check the return trip before choosing how to pay.

Hillsborough: check HART’s reduced-fare requirements

HART’s fare page lists a $1 discounted one-way fare on Local and Limited Express service, compared with the $2 regular fare.

Adults 65+ are among the eligible reduced-fare riders; Medicare eligibility can also qualify a rider under the agency’s rules.

HART lists a one-time $3 charge for its discounted Flamingo Fares card, with documentation required.

Do not assume that downloading an app automatically activates a senior discount.

Ask how to establish your reduced-fare account and what identification to bring before your first journey.

Pinellas: payment method matters

PSTA lists a reduced cash bus fare of $1.10 and identifies adults 65+ among its eligible riders.

Its reduced-fare information accepts specified identification, including government-issued proof of age and Medicare documentation.

SunRunner does not accept cash, so a plan that works on a cash-accepting bus may not work for that journey.

Reduced-fare contactless payment requires the appropriate account or card registration; check PSTA’s instructions before tapping.

The fare page currently contains inconsistent digital-fare figures in different sections, so confirm your exact digital price directly with PSTA rather than treating the cash figure as a universal fare.

This distinction is worth resolving at home, instead of at the boarding door.

Pasco: use GoPasco’s own rules

GoPasco lists a 75-cent reduced one-way fixed-route fare and a $1.85 reduced day pass.

Adults 65+ qualify under its published rules, with accepted proof such as a Medicare card or GoPasco Reduced Fare Photo ID.

GoPasco lists a $2.50 charge for that photo ID.

Check the documentation requirement even if you purchase a mobile ticket.

Token Transit mobile tickets and onboard payment follow GoPasco’s rules; a card used elsewhere in Tampa Bay should not be assumed valid here.

Make the first journey a small one

Choose a familiar destination with a flexible arrival time, rather than making a high-stakes appointment your first experiment.

Look up the stop closest to the entrance you actually need.

A stop shown beside a large shopping center can still leave a substantial distance between you and the door.

Check which side of the road serves the return journey and whether crossing is practical for you.

Save the route number, destination direction and return departure before you leave.

Take a screenshot or written note if that is easier than reopening several apps.

Ask the questions that fit your needs

Is there seating or shelter at the stop? Does the route run on your travel day? What happens if you miss the return bus?

If you need a mobility accommodation, contact the agency about the vehicle and boarding process.

Paratransit is a separate service with its own eligibility and reservation rules; reaching a particular birthday does not automatically establish eligibility.

Compare the complete journey rather than the ticket alone.

A cheaper ride that adds an impractical transfer may be a poor fit for your day.

For an occasional downtown outing, the fare-free TECO Line Streetcar may be useful, but check its limited route and operating hours separately.

Keep fares, documentation and schedules together in one simple travel note.

These published fare details were checked October 19, 2026; confirm current service alerts and payment requirements before traveling.
